Al Franken For Senate

Al Franken enters Minn. Senate race

Now it's official. As had been rumored for some time, comedian/liberal radio host Al Franken is running for the U.S. Senate as a Democrat in his native Minnesota. He's challenging the incumbent, Republican Sen. Norm Coleman.

"I've spent my career as a comedian," he says on his website today. "Minnesotans have a right to be skeptical about whether I'm ready for this challenge, and to wonder how seriously I would take the responsibility that I'm asking you to give me.

"I want you to know: Nothing means more to me than making government work better for the working families of this state, and over the next twenty months I look forward to proving to you that I take these issues seriously."

Franken says his political hero is former Minnesota Sen. Paul Wellstone.

A lot of times, in reporting the news, journalists give the impressions that they can solve all the problems that the politicians cannot solve. It is good that this man has become a politician so we can see the miracle he can perform solving the problems he had been writing and reporting about.
