Think back to 2003, pre-Iraq war, how complicit our major media networks were in beating the drums for war and how a majority of Americans believed that Saddam was a threat, since then, a majority of Americans have awakened to the Bush Admin's true motives, 911 is in question as never before and Americans are demanding an exit strategy from a failed war in Iraq.

And what can we look forward to?

Since the “surge” to protect American freedoms began in February, 2007, about 100 U.S. soldiers are being killed every month in George W. Bush’s Wars – and probably ten times or more Iraqi and Afghani civilians are being slaughtered each month. By September, 2007, 200 more American soldiers will be dead. By February, 2008, the date of the Presidential primary elections, 700 more American soldiers will be dead. By November, 2008, the date of the Presidential election, 1,600 more American soldiers will be dead. By January, 2009, when our new President is sworn into office, another 1,800 more American soldiers will be dead – and possibly another 18,000 civilians. And this is if things don’t get worse. None of the leading Presidential candidates from either party has gone on the record in favor of removing “all” U.S. military forces from Iraq and Afghanistan. Why?

The "military-industrial complex" has infected Washington, D.C. like cancer.

    Hello:
Just a small note to say that your blog is unique and interesting. Your "Of Then and Now" is particularly mind-rendering and insightful.

      Thank you.

This poem was personal, I wrote it as I remembered a former friend who gave me a lot of great advise over many years.

This former friend really helped me think things through when I needed it most, being very genuine, caring and thoughtful in nature. They were most liberal in their thinking, but politically unaware.

When it came to Bush's rape of Iraq, they completely caved in to the fear mongering that was perpetuated throughout TV news. No matter what I said, they came back to the talking points on FOX and CNN, I tried and tried to explain how all of that was a pack of lies, but they would not hear it. It was very strange because on a personal level, this friend of mine was totally liberal and intelligent, but when it came to Bush's rape of Iraq, they were all for it. I was so disgusted after a few more attempts of arguing that I had to end the friendship on those grounds - you cannot give in to fear and you cannot trust FOX and CNN or the Bush Admin, especially when there is an enormous of info on the net to counter the lies.

They had access to the net, but it was like they didn't care. I was right about Iraq then and I'm right now, just with one less friend, but that's ok. That's a small price to pay compared to the millions of Iraqi's who are either dead or suffering, and the soldiers who are dead or suffering from the mistake that my "friend" so blindly supported.

I wonder from time to time, how many other people found themselves cutting off long time friendships in the last 7 years, due to the Bush politics of division.
